(For satellite, map and aerial images of the main freight station, see
the depot. The second freight house was south of Franklin
in the middle of the block between 9th and Bellevue Avenues. There were tracks on Bellevue that were shared by C&EI and L&N.)
Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad Historical Society
posted two photos with the comment:
Evansville had two C&EI freight stations. The big freight station was downtown on Eighth Street next to the passenger station. A smaller freight station was location on West Franklin Street a few blocks north of the L&N passenger station on the west side of town.

1
[You can see some of the team tracks that were east of the freight house. It also looks like there was a coal tower in the background.] |

2 (probably the source)
[We are looking southeast from Franklin Street.] |
You can see the patch in a parking lot where the spur curved away from the east/west main and turned to go north up Bellevue.
You can also see a property line that is still on an angle because of this spur to Bellevue.

Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad Historical Society posted From the C&EI Historical Society photo archives is a photo of the C&EI freight house in downtown Evansville. The cars in the photo look to be late 30s or early 40s. The passenger station is visible to the left. Both buildings were on Eighth Street and were torn down in the 1960s to make way for the new City-County government complex. Great picture. The "Historic Evansville" website has some interesting views of the yard behind the building - towards the bottom of their page on the C&EI depot area:http://www.historicevansville.com/tag.php?id=ceidepot . |
