Here is a tour of the Buckheart Mine south of Canton, Illinois. There was a spur off the line that went to the mine and later the Cilco (Ameren) power plant. The mine loaded coal for the Burlington and also ran coal to a barge load out near Liverpool. They had two locos. The one seen here and an ex GBW Alco at the load out. This would have been in the 1970’s. Sorry for the quality. They were shot off contact sheets. Hopefully they will make it in Bud Linroth’s book about the Burlington in central Illinois. The switcher would position the cars north of the tipple and when full men and now I found out women would ride the cars on the slope into the yard where the train would be made up.Roger Kujawa shared (Peoria Illinois Railroads Trains & Shortlines)
Would anyone have a map of this operation?
Is this tied in with a switch off the TP&W at “UE” siding East of Cuba? I noted an old right of way that cut off the siding and heads south southwest. Google earth shows the RW.
It was the 705 green blob southeast of Canton and the 705 blob east of Dunfermline. [I included the above map image.]

Roger Kujawa, thank you for posting these photos. It is nice to see examples of coal mines in Illinois; I model B&O in Illinois. Many of the n-scale railroads photos of coal mines are set in area with topography not found in Illinois.
When did it close?

Hi worked at the Buckeart mine. I am interested in pictures of the shovels and wheels. I worked on them when ever one of crew was off.
You'll find some photos and videos in these notes:
