Reed Point, MT: Old Grain Elevators and 2022 Yellowstone River Flood

(Satellite)

The flood also wiped out an abandoned railroad route near Livingston, MT.

I happened to "turnaround" with the street view and noticed that the downtown looks rather old fashioned as well.

I noticed in the Chicago Tribune that it said Yellowstone Park was closed because of flooding. That some towns near Yellowstone Park are cut of completely. At least this town still has access from I-90.

Storm Chaser Jordan Hall: The Town of Reed Point Montana is faced with dealing with rising flood waters from the Yellowstone River as waterlevels are making it all the way to town. This is an absolute disaster zone.

Not elevator related but cool pics of a few!!

The "dam" in the foreground is the only road that goes to the north. In the above photo we can see in the background that the bridge is above water. But judging by the tree trunks, the road to get there is quite a ways under water. At least the bridge is still standing. Some bridges have been destroyed by this flood.
The railroad is still labeled Montana Rail Link on a USGS map. But BNSF has taken back this route. Originally, this was the Northern Pacific route.

The town has done a good job of not allowing any development in the flood plain.

Note the "foundation" for the building on the left. I've seen some like that in Mississippi where it is warm enough that the pipes underneath probably won't freeze. But I'll bet you that Montana sees plenty of freezing weather. I presume that building is storage and has no plumbing.

The former Northern Pacific route is getting some tender loving care.
