Valley Junction, WI: C&NW and Milwuakee Union Station and Junction Tower

View of the old Union Station and Tower at Valley Junction, Wisconsin circa 1900. The Chicago &  North Western and the Milwaukee Road both maintained the depot. At the junction the C&NW mainline between Chicago and Minneapolis crossed the Milwaukee Road branch line from Tomah and Babcock. Today everything is gone except the C&NW line, now owned by the Union Pacific.

The oldest topo I could find shows that the Milwaukee was already abandoned.

Fortunately, the aerial photos go back to the late 1930s. This aerial and the topo map indicate that the C&NW route was double tracked. So that means we are looking along the C&NW route in Jim's photo. Specifically we are looking southeast because the aerial shows the house in Jim's photo is south of the crossing.
