| Andy Zukowski posted Illinois Central Railroad Depot in Golconda, Illinois. C1910 Mary Rae McPherson: Rare and priceless photo! A little background on this locomotive: it was built by Pittsburgh in 1892 as St. Louis, Alton & Terre Haute #31. Four years later, it became Illinois Central #884 when the Belleville & Southern Illinois Division of the SLA&TH was merged into the IC. The SLA&TH lines included East St. Louis to Paducah via Pinckneyville, Murphysboro, Carbondale and Marion, along with Pinckneyville to Eldorado via DuQuoin. The line to Golconda was built from the former SLA&TH Paducah Line, which had become the Illinois Central's Carbondale District. Engine 884 was renumbered to 1884 as seen here in May of 1904, renumbered 2884 in May of 1917, and was retired from service in August of 1926. Fred Rehlmeyer: This Short line came off of main line at Reevesville, south to Brownfield to Golconda and on to Rosiclare. |

The branch terminated at this town. The depot was 2.5 blocks south of Main Street.
By 1949, the branch was extended to the North and East.
