Not only can we see signaling pipelines coming out of the tower and going along the side of the tracks, but we can also see a couple of pipelines coming over to control something on the siding.

| Darren Reynolds posted B&Os "CX" tower (Cameron) Cameron,West Virginia This tower is no longer standing Photo by: Henry Wilhelm NRHS June 1930 Christopher Clark: They took those tracks up in the 70s! Old Main Line sub. James Mischke: Old. Main Line cut as a through route in 1963. Photographed train is Wheeling - Grafton, probably carrying a Wheeling - Washington DC sleeper. Tim Shanahan shared |
I was hoping to find the siding that we see in the photo on this map. I presume that the main function of the tower was to control crossovers. But I didn't find the siding. But this map did teach me that today's Railroad Street that is closest to the creek is built on the former right-of-way of the B&O.

I think the houses on the hill in the photo implies that the tower was on the north side of the tracks. The square near the right side of this photo about 1/3 of the way up is my guess as to the location of the tower.

Given that Cameron is on the route between Moundsville and Fairmont, it makes me wonder how the Old Main Line crossed West Virginia and Ohio.
