Baltimore, MD: 1935-2005 GM/Chevy Assembly Plant

(Satellite)

John Sery posted four images with the comment: "In Chuck McAbee's response to industrialmodel's post about B&O auto parts train 396, he mentioned GM's Baltimore assembly plant. That remined me of a field trip that my Jr. High School shop class took to visit that facility on Broening Highway in 1965. Highlight was seeing the car engines drop down from a second floor to mate with the car chassis below. I still have the booklet from that trip that I have scanned if you are interested! You can see the plant service tracks on the cover photo and the text mentions that approximately 70 railroad cars served the plant daily."

This area was dominated by Pennsy, but the post was in a B&O group, and it appears that B&O did have a tendril that snaked its way down to this plant.

By comparing the topo maps, we can see the differences made because of the 1962 expansion mentioned in the brochure.
