Ashland, KY: C&O 1925 Depot, Passenger Mainline and 1906 Freight House

1925: (Satellite, it is now used by a bank)
1998: (Satellite)

On the east side of Ashland, the C&O mainline separated into a freight line that went to their yard by the river and a passenger line that went through town to their depot. That separation was controlled by the Clyffeside Tower.
In 1975, Amtrak moved to Tri-State Station so that the passenger mainline could be abandoned.  [trainweb-ashland]
In 1998, Amtrak moved to a renovated 1906 C&O freight house. [trainweb-catlettsburg]

The retained passenger canopy makes for an excellent drive-through facility.

1906 Freight House after the 1998 Renovation

The freight house has the signature architecture of and two-story office building at the end of a one-story freight handling building. And they simply changed the freight doors into windows.

All three available views end at the Amtrak platform. If one had gone just a little further, I would have a nice view of the Ohio River bridges.

People have discovered that freight handling facilities and factories have a large clear space under a roof. So they make good event spaces.
