Balcony Falls, VA: C&O Coaling Tower, Water Tank, and Depot

Satellite

Ron Flanary posted
On June 8, 2000, CSX 36 East ambles along the easy James River grade between Clifton Forge and Richmond as it passes an old steam era coaling station at Balcony Falls, Va. The pigeons hanging out on top of the old structure are obviously accustomed to trains passing, so they see no need to fly off in fear.

Balcony Falls, Va. (former C&O James River Line between Clifton Forge and Lynchburg, Va.), shortly after daybreak, summer of 1994.
Joe Garnett: Sadly in 2020 they tore down the old depot building, so all that remains are the water and coaling towers.

(37.62695, -79.45769) Similar to the coaling towers Ogle built for the C&O at about the same time at Charlottesville, Virginia, and West Hamlin, West Virginia. With adjacent C&O depot and water tank. 19 May 2017
