Happy 95th birthday year to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s 100-foot-long, standard gauge turntable. Manufactured by the American Bridge Company, the turntable was originally located at the Reading Railroad roundhouse in Cressona, Pennsylvania. This 1928 turntable is due to be completely refurbished.

The 1832 Strasburg Rail Road is "the oldest continuously operating railroad in North America and the most visited heritage railroad in the continental United States." When the Philadelphia & Columbia Railroad (P&C) began construction in 1831 of its 82-mile route to connect its namesake cities, it bypassed Strasburg, which was then the most populous and richest town in Lancaster County. So the Strasburg Rail Road was chartered to build a 4.5-mile route to join what became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

The excursion trains not only use steam locomotives, they also use wooden coaches.

And the railroad restores wooden coaches as well as steam locomotives.

It takes some special equipment to maintain steam locomotives. Here we see the "ring of fire" that is used to expand the steel tire to get it off of the wheel.
