"In 1995, the City of Sioux City and the Siouxland Historical Railroad Association entered into a development agreement to preserve the Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District. The City of Sioux City’s urban renewal planning effort in 1991 for the Riverside Neighborhood identified and recommended a potential redevelopment of the Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District as a historical attraction. The Siouxland Historical Railroad Association bought the Milwaukee Railroad Shops in December 1995 with the aid of federal funds administered by the City of Sioux City." [

Here's a Pic of the engineers tool shed and the machine/Blacksmith Shop in the background. Tonight, the parking lot in the foreground is now submerged as well.
Aaron Downhour: lots of water damage coming to those cars, hopefully they are able to get them dried out quickly, still lots of rework to any restoration work that was already done on that equipment. |

“The Sioux City Railroad Museum will be closed to the public for the near future to allow for flood recovery.
I'm sad to report the Sioux City Railroad Museum has extensive damage to all its buildings from the pressure of the flood waters. The grounds are inundated with high levels of flood waters.
The photos below show the extensive damage to the interiors of the Car Shops Learning & Event Center and the Roundhouse Building. You can see the pressure of the flood waters cause the wood floor in the Car Shops building to buckle. The interior of the roundhouse exhibit area and the gift shop gift you a good glimpse of the amount of water that infiltrated the building.
Due to the rapid current of the flood waters, our assessment team was unable to access the other buildings and grounds.” -Larry Obermeyer

This Historical Photo shows the Milwaukee Round house and shops in Sioux City. The bridge is hard to see if impossible to see in photo but the tracks in the background is the tracks that Leads to the bridge that just fell tonight. You can see the river that is flooding in the background in the photo.
Matt Merk: Everything in that historical photo is under water now. Not just the bridge but the railroad museum that occupies that facility. It's very sad. |
