Dennis DeBruler commented on Hugh's share Not only is the roundhouse defunct, the whole town is defunct. It looks like the coaling tower is extant. https://www.google.com/maps/@48.3958349,-107.5989031,597m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu |
Cam Huckabee posted A scar in the earth from a former Great Northern roundhouse and turntable in Bowdoin, Montana. I did some digging in GN archives and found that it began construction in 1889 and only lasted a few decades before being slowly dismantled in the 1920's. There was a large classification yard as well as many maintenance buildings, repair shops, offices, and an ice house. A stockyard was active until 1966. A station and hotel were constructed in 1917, however by 1923 the hotel was demolished. Couldn't find when the roundhouse was taken down. All that remains today is the concrete foundation.
