At first, I was surprised that the CB&Q route did not appear on this map, https://collections.carli.illinois.edu/digital/collection/knx_rail/id/298. Then I remembered that this was a 1902 map. CB&Q built this southern route later to access coal mines and the 1917 Ohio River Bridge that it help build at Metropolis, IL. Today, this is one of the few former-CB&Q routes still left in Illinois.

This later map includes the southern route.

At first, I thought the town grew up around MoPac's depot, but looking at a satellite map, I could not find a downtown for this town.
