Bloomington, IL: Illinois Terminal Railroad Map

The tight turns through on the map is a reminder that the railroad started as an interurban railroad. Interurban railroads normally ran just passenger cars, and they hooked up to a streetcar line to get through a city. But the IT developed a freight business, and it lived on after the passenger business was abandoned. But its sinewy path through towns did make its freight business less competitive with the "normal" railroads in Illinois.
Matt Smith postedGood diagram of IT in Bloomington and how the P&E and NKP interchanged with the IT . I didn't realize Morris Tick was served by IT. Reposting from a different group, it didn't mention the source.
