Pence, WI: Plummer [Iron] Mine

(Satellite)

Paul Mattson posted two photos with the comment: "Plummer mine head frame off hyw 77 between Pence and Iron Belt.  Growing up in Iron Belt as kids we would climb up it and enjoy the view."
James Torgeson shared with the comment: "The Plummer Mine in Pence, Wisconsin on the Gogebic Iron Range, operated from 1904-1924. The underground mine's headframe has stood sentinel ever since. The last Gogebic ore was shipped to the Bethlehem Steel Lackawanna Plant in 1965 via Ashland."
Igor Svengooli: There was talk about opening some mines back up in the neck or the woods but the Indianas voted it down. Would have been great for there economy. Maybe not so good for the land.

That's wild that you would climb up it and so cool at the same time! 😳 It is definitely not forgotten, though. It is on the ATV/UTV trail and is frequently visited.

We visited it last winter during one of our rides.
