John Harker posted two photos with the comment: "Charles Franzen photographed the Brighton, Iowa M&StL depot in February 1956. The depot in this view was on a stretch of the line originally built by the Iowa Central. Charles had his camera pointed toward the west northwest. South Benton Street is visible immediately behind the depot. The track alignment in the foreground is now Railroad Street. Attached for reference is a 1950s aerial map. Also, a copy of this photo is in Gene Green's Minneapolis & St. Louis book, page 71, published by Morning Sun Books. I scanned and edited this image from an original red-bordered Kodak Kodachrome slide. John Harker collection."
Dennis DeBruler: Thanks for the research. The oldest high-resolution topo map that I could find was 1980. Of the three railroads that used to serve this town (Rock Island, M&StL, and CB&Q), only the Rock Island appeared on that map.
John Harker posted again with the same comment.
