Peter DeBruin: Note the two passengers expressions on the far left looking at JP, cracks me up every time.
Rodney D Zona: St. Louis based passenger train and engine crews worked to and from Jefferson City.
Theodore Picraux: Loved that full length center platform and crossover.

Route 66 Postcards posted two photos with the comment:
Here is a "then & now" of the Kirkwood, Missouri railroad depot.  We are sharing this Route 66 post from the Vintage St. Louis & Route 66 page.  We are delighted that this structure has not been renovated outside and still retains its original charm.  The history is interesting:  "The Missouri Pacific Depot at Kirkwood was constructed in 1893 and designed by Douglas Donovan in Richardsonian Romanesque style. Residents kept it from being “modernized” in 1941. In 2002, Amtrak was planning to close the station to cut costs before the City of Kirkwood stepped in and bought the depot from the Union Pacific Railroad. Staffed by volunteers, it still serves Amtrak trains today."
Randall Bourne: Most historic depots [Only in the South] were built with segregated loading platforms on opposite sides of the depot. The "white" loading dock was bigger and maybe more elaborate and the front of the train would stop there first. The "other" platform was smaller since most non-whites couldn't afford train tickets back then. The historic depot in my AR hometown still has the two platforms.

About $4.6m is needed to renovate the station.
