[Is that a tree growing on the left rail?]

Dennis DeBruler commented on the above post
Because of the curve in the track, I think these buildings were by the NYC route. Those tracks are now abandoned. The depot was probably in the clump of trees that is north of Union Street and east of 1st Street. Is there a tree in the second photo that is growing on the left rail?

A USGS map labels the remaining Pennsy route as Soo Line Railroad. That doesn't make sense, so I checked out the 2005 SPV Map. It labels the route as ISSR, which is Indiana Southern Railroad. But southwest of Beehunter, which is the SPV Map label for the junction of CP/Milw and ISSR/Pennsy, CP does share the RoW with ISSR. On the map, that route terminates at Hawthorn Mine. I see on a satellite image that the spur to that mine has been torn up. I did see coal hoppers and some tankers stored on the route southwest of Beehunter.

It doesn't look like the old grain elevator is used anymore.

This co-op is another reminder that supporting farmers needs more than just grain storage. In fact, the map label claims "propane  supplier." This elevator is not rail served.

The aerial photos had poor resolution.
