Veedersburg, IN: NKP (Cloverleaf) Depot

Jim Hudson shared Brian J Hadley's photo
Brian's comment:
Before & After: Built in 1903, the Toledo, St. Louis & Western (AKA Cloverleaf later Nickel Plate Road) depot in Veedersburg, IN is seen in a very early picture. After is in 2009 when we visited. I believe the track was abandoned in the 70's by the N&W.

According to the SPV MapVeedersburg, IN used to be served by the Aban/NS/NW/NKP/Cloverleaf, "CA&S/(CEI)" and Aban/Conrail/NYC/Big Four/Peoria & Eastern. My 1928 RR Atlas does not show the Chicago, Attica & Southern/Chicago & Eastern Illinos. I see at least a couple of abandoned C&EI branches in northern Indiana in the SPV Map that do not appear in the 1928 Map. That is why I like researching old photos, you learn something new every day.

Bird's Eye View
The Big Four came through town in an east/west direction, and the Cloverleaf ran along the east side of town. The Big Four still has a neat looking arch bridge east of town.

Update: see Junction Tower for a map of where the railroads used to come through town.
