On this day in 1913, a CPR grain elevator annex in Transcona, loaded with a million bushels of wheat, tipped over. Beginning at noon, it sank slowly all day until sometime after midnight when it came to a rest at a 30-degree angle. Erected the previous year, the annex was built so well that it stayed intact through the event. Holes were made and the grain was removed.
The following March, the building was lifted back into position in what was considered one of the most remarkable feats of Canadian engineering at the time. The structure is still in use today.
I looked at a satellite image, but I could not find it.
