Stockton, IL: Chicago Great Western

Bill Latimer posted
Westbound Stockton Thunder 1964. Photographer unknown.
Because Stockton, IL, still has the road "Railroad Ave.", the tree lines, and the bend in Front Ave. on the west side; it is easy to see where the tracks ran through town.

A comment on the posting noted that there are six units pulling the train.

David Thompson: The two story building was originally the East Stockton Dispatchers Office which was moved to Stockton when East Stockton was closed.

I'm surprised there was such a big tower since there was no other railroad crossing the CGW in this town.

David Thompson: This may help answer the tower question, in 1930 This depot or more correctly tower was moved from its originally location 2 miles from East Stockton and was moved to Stockton proper around the time the East Stockton facilities were closed. Also prior to the Dispatchers moving to Oelwein 1949 they were housed on the second floor. (CGW Iowa in Merger Decade - Dr. P. Hastings)
