Cayuga, IN: C&EI and NKP (Cloverleaf) 1893 Depot and NKP Coal Tower

Mike Finney posted
Cayuga. I think this is also from the Frankfort Morning Times.
More from my scrapbook I made when I was 9 or so.
The caption reads "Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad tracks bisect the Nickel Plate Railroad to form an unusual pattern of steel which has become a landmark at this Vermillion County town. The oddly shaped station, constructed during the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, serves both railroads and controls the five C&EI stations south of Danville, Ill."

Note that there are two bay windows, one for each railroad. Checking HistoricAerials shows that the depot was in the northwest quadrant on land that is still vacant. So the CSX+CP/L&N/C&EI runs from the lower-left to the middle-right. The other route was the Aban/NS/NW/NKP/Cloverleaf.

One of the comments indicated that the CE&I used to be double tracked. Again, because of the tree lines and land scars, you can tell it went through town just north of Elm St.

Cayuga, IN coal dock, 10/23/1915.
Arthur Shale 120-ton coal dock built in 1909, removed around 1947 or 1948. Very similar to Ramsey's second 100-ton coal dock built in 1914.Jacob Hortenstine The coal car even has TStLand W on the end.
