Seymour, IN: Preserved/Milwaukee Depot

(Satellite)

Drew Burkhardt posted two photos with the comment: "CSX Monon heritage unit by the old Milwaukee Road Depot at Seymour Indiana."
Tim Hamblen: I'm grew up in Cortland and now live in Seymour. For those interested , the Road came into Seymour near the North side and then on out to points like Azalia, Elizabethtown, and on to Westport. There was a spur up at 10th Street in Seymour that peeled off to the South and ran down the middle of O'Brien Street and into that depot . Also when Walsh built the original line he must have paid off someone in government here because they allowed him to run a spur into a factory right thru Shields Park. The locals took great umbrage to that and one dark night ripped up the line, rails , ties and all. The line was then ran down the middle of Park Street to the factory. Park St. has a real high crown in it due to the line running down the middle. You can also see how the line ran thru the park in the way the land is sculpted.

It is now the Jackson County Visitor Center, https://maps.app.goo.gl/vZF4ax79FyErgRrq5. I could not read the plaque by the building. It does not appear in a Dec 2022 view.
