Childress, TX: 1902 Lost/Fort Worth & Denver City Roundhouse and Backshops

(Satellite)

The Fort Worth & Denver City became part of the Colorado & Southern. [tsha] The C&W was a subsidiary of the CB&Q.

Tim Starr posted three diagrams with the comment: "The Fort Worth & Denver City was 450 miles long and had 40 locomotives, 30 passenger cars, and 1,200 freight cars. An increase in business in 1902 prompted the railroad to build a new shop site at Childress, Texas and close the smaller, obsolete shops at Fort Worth, Wichita Falls, and Clarendon."

A remnant of the roundhouse foundation is still visible.

The remnant was part of the short stalls. There were long stalls on the west side of the arc. Most of the classification tracks are gone.

The topo map accurately depicts the different lengths of the roundhouse stalls.

The topo map made me realize that a 1966 aerial photo would still have the roundhouse. So I got it as well since it is higher resolution.
