I was surprised that the depot was so far away from the town. I guess that means the town was built before the railroad. So why was a town built in the middle of nowhere? Did the Leaf River drop enough here for some hydro power?

I did not realize that Illinois was hilly in that area. I now realize that I've never travelled north of I-88.
