Blake Wilder: Where in Athens was this located?
Linda Dan Killinger: Blake Wilder, where the two lines joined north of town, near the end of 5th Avenue I think. [Daniel Killinger]
Linda Dan Killinger: Blake Wilder, the L&N freight station at Pryor Street still stands I think. I'll post a picture of it. [Dan K.]

Tower at the northern end of Athens Alabama, where the two lines from Nashville, Tennessee converged, 11/27/83.
James Fransen: You mentioned 2 lines, where were the two lines located and what towns did they go through.
David Kinser: James Fransen the original main went north from Athens AL to Columbia TN then on to Brentwood TN in the 1920s they built the so called cut off that ran from Athens through Lewisburg TN then connected with original main at Brentwood just south of Nashville from then on most freight and all passenger trains except some locals ran the new line eventually the old main from Pulaski TN to Athens was abandoned then the remaining portion from Columbia TN to Pulaski was formed into TN Southern plus the branch from Columbia to Florence AL

Dale Proctor responded James question
Mike Broadway: The western line has been abandoned and converted into a walking trail

Jamie Elliott posted two photos with the comment: "Athens Junction: The Original mainline to the left ran through Elkmont, Pulaski, TN, Lynnville TN to Brentwood. The line that's now the mainline to the right was constructed later and runs through Ardmore, Lewisburg and Chapel Hill enroute to Brentwood and on into the railyard."

L&N passenger station, Athens Ala., April 1988.

No comment mentioned that the depot is extant. Imagine my surprise when I found it nicely preserved.

100th anniversary of L&N, nice map of facilities and more.

The highest resolution aerial photo I could find was 60,000 [AR6191002500067], and it did not help me find the depot. And none of the topo maps were helpful except for this one. This also helped me accurately determine the location of the junction tower.
