Freight House: (Satellite, it is now an event space)
John Counotte posted Quaker Oats Cereal Factory, Southeast corner of Broadway & Mill Streets, Akron, Summit County, OH Robert Fete: Lovely when the wind carried the scent of toasting oats our way. Almost covered the Not-so pleasant scent of the tire factories … Jill Forsythe: Who knew it would be a Hilton Hotel one day and I worked in the accounting dept 1985-1988….memories Thomas Murphy: I always stayed at the Quaker Square Hilton Hotel when I traveled to Akron for business. I also believe the hotel was a favorite spot for PGA players when Firestone CC was still a stop on the PGA tour. Jay Krajcovic shared |
The brick building in the left foreground was probably the Erie freight house. The beige building on the right used to be the Quaker Oats Cereal Factory with a lot of grain storage silos.

The silos have been converted into stacks of rooms. They appear to be motel rooms. I've also seen this facility labeled as a dormitory for the University of Akron. I don't know if the usage changed or if it is mixed use.
