"The 1883 wooden depot features history displays." [Amtrak]
When I looked at a different date to try to find better lighting of the depot, I discovered that it has been moved! In the distant background, you can see the depot. The depot now sits in the right side of this view.
Going down the street to get closer to the old location.
It was moved to support the original platform that is west of Center Street and along Lincoln Street. I think the pin marks the original location of the depot because the NYC's Fort Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw Railroad used to go diagonally across the left side of this satellite view.
Back in 2013, passengers didn't even have an Amshack. I'm glad someone moved the depot so that the passengers can now wait in a real train station. Looking at a satellite image, they also added a lot of parking east of the depot. People in Fort Wayne now have to drive up to this station because Amtrak quit running trains on the Pennsylvania route. And I think people along the former B&O route also have to come up here now.
And this is what taught me that the depot used to be in the northeast quadrant of the crossing of the FWJ&S and LS&MS.

This is the post that motivated this research.
StormySky Rail Productions posted Amtrak depot in Waterloo, Indiana along the Norfolk Southern. Photo taken in 2021 Tim Shanahan shared Joe Millspaugh: Not its original location. This is after it was moved. Craig Jon Berndt: Yes, it is exactly where it should be to serve the railroad that it first served 141 years ago, in late-1883. The Amtrak waiting room is in the near end, and the far end can be rented for business and social meetings. |
