Seneca, IL: LST Monument

Seneca used to have a Prairie Shipyard that made Landing Ships, Tanks (LST) for World War II. They have built a monument in memory of the people that built and served on Seneca's LSTs. It was unveiled May 21, 2005. It is on the corner of a park in the southeast quadrant of the intersection of East Shipyard and Oak Roads.

And on the left and right ends of the black stones are the numbers of the 157 LSTs built in Seneca. (I had to move the flowers to get the pictures, but I was careful to put them back where I found them.)

I was not able to determine where the shipyard itself used to be. It may be the land of Crotty Park and the school that is south of there. (Update: the location was where there is now an industrial park.)
