The grain elevator is big considering ICG pulled rail service a long time ago.

The building has an angle because the NCaStL came through this crossing on an angle.

Union City, Tennessee: Passenger & Freight Station, Mobile & Ohio Railroad/Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis Railroad. The Notes give us two views of the joint NC&StL/M&O Passenger & Freight Station at Union City. The first is the of the rear of the Station and the second is a track side view looking west down the NC&StL, with the M&O crossing the horizontal center of the photograph. Northbound is to the right. The Notes estimate the Station was built in about 1891. The photograph was taken on 16 May 1916.

Tin elevator still in use with the wood leg inside along with a new one installed through the roof

Bob Summers: This would be a cribbed construction wood elevator with tin on the exterior to make them less vulnerable to fire, often from embers from the coal fired steam locomotives. We usually call them “iron clad” elevators.

Cribbed construction is where 2x6 planks are laid flat and nailed to the layer below. Takes a lot of lumber.

South of Kassik Milling is the Farmers Cooperative.

Actually, the above modern feed mill and a lot of the grain storage is part of Kassik Milling.

Duane Reif: Many of That style of 250,000 Bu. elevators were built all over the state of Kansas. Great improvement for the grain industry in the late 50s.

John McCall: This is one of a series of stand alone elevators (no towns) on an old dead end rail line west of Hollywood, KS. I wasn't sure this was still open when I looked at it a year or so ago.

Christopher O Johnson: Not many two ton trucks anymore, when I was a kid we'd sit in line for hours to dump. If you had a ten wheeler you were big time, alot of pickups even then. Now if you have to wait ten minutes to dump its a crisis. Never seen a elevator with the red and blue stripe on the bins.

The silos and buildings on the right side of the former C&NW right-of-way probably store various chemicals for spreading on fields. There appears to be a feed truck on this side of the wood grain elevator.
