EIRR began operations in 1993, and the primary products that it hauls is grain and potatoes.

Digitally zoomed

While checking out the EIRR railyard, I spotted a wood grain elevator.

Here is the building that has been torn down in the above view.

The above view explains these grain bin foundations. And the wood elevator is gone.

It looks like the grain up here is edible beans instead of row crops. This facility is Kelly Bean. See Bridger, MT, for more information about Kelly Bean.

The above elevator is west of Main Street. This elevator is on the east side.
Street View, Jun 2026

The elevators get rail service because this Milwaukee route is now owned by the Twin Cities & Western Railroad (TC&W) .
I looked at other views of the north side of the west elevator to see how many of them had tank cars. Every view since 2014 had tank cars. And they are delivering them to Agri Trading Fats and Oils. I also discovered that they recently rebuilt the receiving facility so that they could unload tank cars indoors.

To the west of the ADM plant is a Remington corn seed plant. Note the ADM plant in the right background.

At first, I could not find the wood elevator because it is west of town. In the town is a big storage grain elevator.

Buffalo, ND: Wood Grain Elevator

(Satellite)

That is probably a fertilizer supply company that is getting rail service.
Street View, Aug 2021

They have a trackmobile to move the hopper cars.

This is a fraction of the pneumatic trailers that were parked close to the hopper unloading facility. Google Maps does not have a label for this facility. I'm still guessing it is bulk fertilizer. But this facility would supply fertilizer to retail companies rather than to farmers.
Street View, Sep 2025

The town also has a lot of grain storage. All of those small bins reminds me that North Dakota grows edible beans and canola as well as wheat, soybeans and corn.
Street View, Aug 2021

Actually, it looks like this is some sort of grain processing plant.
Street View, Aug 2021

But Google Maps does not have a label for the plant, nor was I able to find a sign.

The railroad was the Northern Pacific.

Wood Feed Mill: (Satellite)
Large Storage Elevator: (Satellite)
ADM Edible Beans: (Satellite)
SOO Roundhouse: (Satellite, based on the topo map below.)

The truck with an augur is a feed truck, which implies that the elevator is a feed mill. Or at least it was back in 2008.
Street View, Aug 2008

The building on the left is the CPKC yard office. There is enough rail service in this town to justify at least one local locomotive.

West Acres Grain

It has a fall protector and a long siding, so it should be rail served. In fact, I saw a couple of small cuts of hoppers on a siding in a satellite image.

Ardent Mills

Obviously, this flour mill is rail served.

The industrial spur that goes south serves a fertilizer supply and a propane tank farm.

Do they supply 28% ammonia as well as dry fertilizer?

Originally, the east/west route was the SOO Line, and the north/south route was the Milwaukee. The Great Northern and most of the Milwaukee is now abandoned. Today's tracks are now owned by CPKC.
