CB&Q's mainline to Denver is the east/west route. A CB&Q branch to Des Moines goes to the Northwest. And a CB&Q bypass goes along the south side of town. All of these routes still exist. The C&NW/M&StL and Wabash routes also still exist. I wonder why they built the bypass. I studied the contour lines, and I don't think the bypass has better grades than the original route through town.

The blue line is UP, so it kept the C&NW/M&StL down to Bridgeport. This map does not specify an owner for the route south of Bridgeport. The Wabash route south of Albia is now owned by Iowa Southern Railway (ISRY)

I wonder when the BNSF route south of Bridgeport down to their mainline was built and why. As recently as 1982, that route did not exist.

The building has an angle because the NCaStL came through this crossing on an angle.

Union City, Tennessee: Passenger & Freight Station, Mobile & Ohio Railroad/Nashville, Chattanooga & St Louis Railroad. The Notes give us two views of the joint NC&StL/M&O Passenger & Freight Station at Union City. The first is the of the rear of the Station and the second is a track side view looking west down the NC&StL, with the M&O crossing the horizontal center of the photograph. Northbound is to the right. The Notes estimate the Station was built in about 1891. The photograph was taken on 16 May 1916.

A lot of tracks have been removed to make rooom for three highways through this area.

The tower was west of the B&O track and just south of McKinley Ave.

The B&O route to the south is now owned by IORY. This map shows the IORY terminating at Sullivant Ave. But a satellite map shows the tracks continue north and now join the NS/Pennsy tracks.

The commuter service in the NYC metro area looks complicated. I accessed the link on Google Maps, https://dv.njtransit.com/mobile/tid-mobile.aspx?SID=MA, to learn more. But I got a "500- Internal server error" in response. I hope NJT maintains their trains better than their website.

According to the 2005 SPV Map, the railroad is NS/Pennsy. Given that Upland is significantly south of Fort Wayne, I wondered if this town was on Pennsy's Panhandle route.  Upland is on a Pennsy route that goes from Marion, IN, to Gas City to Upland to Hartford City and then straight to Union City, IN.

I was surprised because I though the Panhandle routes had been abandoned. The route between Marion and Hartford City is still active, but it is no longer owned by NS. It is now owned by Central Railroad of Indianapolis (CERA).

Sexton, Kossuth County, IA.

Early owner unknown/Huntting Elevator Co. Headhouse built before 1899? 15,000-bushel capacity. Extensively repaired in 1912 after the west wall collapsed causing the house to lean. Annex built in 1917, T. E. Ibberson Co. 15,000-bushel capacity. Metal cladding added to the annex in 1934 by T. E. Ibberson Co. It was also painted silver during this time. The Federal North Iowa Grain Co. was operating from this complex by 1928.

The elevator is skunked by a tree on the left in this view. I included the track because I was surprised how much it goes up and down, that is, an uneven grade.

While trying to get a better view of the locomotive, I noticed thatthey sell animal feed. But I think it is retail (packaged) feed. Their website talks about show animals. They have a couple of buildings that probably stock packaged feed. I found no evidence that they can grind feed here. In fact, the only service listed for this location is grain.

The railroad was the Wheeling & Lake Erie (W&LE), and it is now the Wheeling & Lake Erie (WE). (The shortline WE reused the railroad name, but the area covered is different.)

Since WE is a shortline, the two conveyors across the tracks that we see in the top view are not over a Class I railroad. I think this elevator can handle a unit train because it has a yard and its own locomotive
