The ol depot still stands in Monterey, In. Looks like it got some paint fairly recently but they better fix the roof sooner than later! Monterey is where I call home.

Summer 1995, Frick Services Inc. at Monterey, IN. had a dilemma. We had a train ordered by one of the hog feed outlets in the Southeastern U. S. The problem was the CSX couldn't get us a 65 car train together without trickling the cars in over a two week period. However the Garrett, IN. Trainmaster advised us that the Burlington Northern had a solid block of covered hoppers being routed via Garrett and the CSX. These were brand spanking new from the factory in Pennsylvania. They told us to contact the Burlington Northern, and maybe more strings could be pulled for cars. So we made a call to the BN and was allowed to use their cars to haul our grain to North Carolina. We are looking through downtown Monterey, IN. on the former Erie Railroad at brand new BN cars being loaded. They were so new, that standing six feet away you could smell the paint. Photo was taken by the late Mark Stanek from the top of our grain elevator. Photo is out of my collection.
John Eagan: I remember this the string stretched all the way into the cemetery!
Rhett Coates: I was attending The Art Institute of Pittsburgh [Pa.] when those cars, thousands of them, were released BRAND NEW and were rolling on Conrail, through Pittsburgh, on their way west. For a few months, they came through the city. I believe Greenville, Pa. is where they were built. WOW, those cars were nice!
Danny Gramenz: 1995 ??? Are you sure?
