On a typical gray, gloomy late winter day in central Indiana, an eastbound Penn Central merchandise train passes "Dunreith" Tower in the tiny hamlet of the same name. The ex PRR Columbus to Indianapolis main line crossed a lightly used N&W (NKP) branch here, and by this date the tower was manned only on first shift, Monday through Friday. This once vital east-west artery is completely gone today. March, 1974 photo by Mark Hinsdale |
The NKP branch was part of the Lake Erie & Western. Both routes are now abandoned.
