Winfield, KS: Grain Elevator with broken bin

John Blankenship posted
Fleming Feed and Grain elevator about 8 miles north of Winfield Kansas on US 77 highway. It was hit last night by high winds during a short thunderstorm. Fleming also has locations at Leon and west of Burden Kansas.
Dalton Lines Luckily it appears to be empty so no lose of any seed
John Blankenship Yes.................it was empty .....ready for wheat harvest which will start in about three weeks. The bin just behind it was nicked in a few places by flying debris from the demolished bin. This is the third time over the years that a bin has been destroyed.
What amazed me when I looked up the satellite footprint for the elevator is that it does not have rail access even though it could have if it was built in a field less than a mile to the west. So this shows that just a feed mill (as opposed to shipping grain) will support a rather large elevator.
