Sublette, KS: Grain elevators, including a conveyor over tracks

Bob Summers Back in the day it took an "act of congress" to build a conveyor over an active rail line that was not a spur into our facilities. I suppose the short lines operating some of these branch lines these days are a little more flexible?

The red tape for a conveyor across the tracks would explain why the white building on the left was a recent addition to the Cargill elevator in Gilman, IL. This conveyor is over the former IC mainline. It is now Canadian National's mainline. The elevator on the right holds 4 million bushels. This photo shows about half of the long building that doubled the capacity of the elevator.

The original elevator was silos and bins. More photos are in my notes on this elevator:

Brett Ellis Dennis DeBruler originally one of the early unit train loaders. Sent many loads there when it was a Continental Grain location. A little over 800,000 capacity at that time.

I noticed Sublette has another rather large elevator considering that the town is rather small.
