Fremont, IN: NYC/Ft. Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw Railroad Depot

(Satellite, it is long gone)

For a rather small town, it has quite a few manufacturing plants. This NYC route between Steubenville, IN, and Litchfield, MI, is now owned by Indiana Northeastern.

Craig Jon Berndt posted two images with the comment:
FREMONT.  When the Ft. Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw Railroad arrived in Fremont in 1869 or 1870, it built a depot and attached freight and grain storage building at the south end of Wayne St., north of the railroad.  The 1913 photo is looking northeast from Wayne St. at the depot.  The railroad had a special rate for people attending a religious revival meeting.
The 2nd floor of the larger part of the building was compartmented for grain storage.  The elevator was in the cupola on the roof.  The 1st floor was for storage of inbound and outbound freight.
The flour mill and co-op will be discussed in following posts.
