Wayne Hudak posted Leroy Indiana Depot on the Pennsy's "Panhandle" Route about 1911 (appx 37 miles from Chicago IL). Leroy is an unincorporated town between Crown Point and Hebron Indiana. It had a small population in the early 1900's and still has a small population today. Wayne Hudak I always counted cars on trains when I was a kid and the longest one I can remember was a PRR Panhandle train between Leroy and Hebron..... about 210 cars! Oh... and 10 F units. [Quite a few boxcars on the siding for such a small town. An indication of how important the railroad was before cars and trucks.] |
These are notes I am writing to help me learn our industrial history. They are my best understanding, but that does not mean they are a correct understanding.
