We are all no doubt familiar with the ELGIN Metra/MILW station. The present-day depot was opened 1948. Prior to that, this is what the Elgin depot looking like:
Dennis DeBruler An example of railroading when the horse&wagon was the main alternative mode of transportation: milk cans on a cart, lots of baggage handling equipment, and boxcars parked behind the depot.

In 1948, a new MILW depot was opened in Elgin, IL (and still in-use by Metra today). Recently found a construction photo of the depot -- from a facebook page "You know you're from Elgin, IL when..."

Still in-service today under Metra, the 1948 Elgin, IL MILW station once served intercity as well as Scoots. Here, a W/B intercity train (The MIDWEST HIAWATHA (?)) arrives town in this undated (early-to-mid 1950s (?)) photo found on the facebook page "You Know you are from Elgin, IL when..."

Its April 1975 I'm at Elgin IL with eastbound passing through the station .The way frt on the left was the used to go west to Davis Jct and DeKalb.
