St. Francis, WI: UP/C&NW old (passenger) vs. UP/C&NW new (freight)

St Francis, WI is where the C&NW's "Old Line" (the psgr main betw Chicago and Milwaukee) and the "New Line" (the frt bypass between Proviso and Butler) met. Today both lines are single-track and only a pair of switches are used to control train movements. However, at one time it was a major junction -- with a tower.

William Shapotkin Well, it's newer than the "Old" Line (1860(?)).

The old line goes down along the Lake Shore through a lot of towns and terminates at the C&NW station in Chicago. The new line doesn't have any passenger stations and connects with their cutoff to the west side of Proviso Yard.

Alan Bryner: And air conditioning was installed just prior to dismantling. It made sense to me.
At least they had train order trees at St. Francis. There weren't any at Kenosha and there was a low joint just before the hand up location. It felt like the engine was going to fall on you.
