Note the height of those toxic water storage ponds!
This street view confirms I have found the correct mine. (This was the first mine I found in that county.)

I'm saving an image of the shaft head because it has a good shadow and because I don't know if they plan to tear it down.
A conveyor still goes over the road, but it no longer goes to the shaft. But I thought it was odd they would take down the part over their land and not remove the part that goes over the road. So I checked with Global Earth. It turns out that as far back as 1998 the conveyor stopped where it stops today.
I don't understand why the conveyor just stops.

That big coal and no rib bolts long ago guess it was dangerous, I only ever got to work small seams small mines even at same companies seems like was always shutting one down moving to another, I think 5 years longest I ever worked in one mine and everyone kinda disliked me for trying to run so much coal every shift but I felt it was my job being miner operator to run as much as possible. When I started there they told us first day that a real good day was 230’ when I retired 5 years later a bad day was 450 foot I guess they was just all used to not working lol Debra Mikalauskas: Hubert Humfleet - 1983 to 2017. |
