Chicago Peoria & St Louis Railroad History Buffs posted Forrest City IL depot & grain elevator. Date unknown |
Two of the eight photos posted by Roger Kujawa with the comment: "2021 The Chicago and Illinois Midland depot in Forrest City, Illinois is endangered with a collapsing roof and a small town that makes the building hard to repurpose."
Dennis DeBruler: The shape is unique enough that I did not find it when I did my first scan of a satellite image. Fortunately, the grain elevator in the background of the third photo helped me find it.

Matt Buhlig posted A Kincaid load makes it’s way through Forest City. The depot is looking a little worse for wear. 5-11-23. Out of curiosity, a lot of towns along the Illinois & Midland have identical depots like these…when were they built? I can’t find anything about them online. Thomas Dyrek: They were built in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Forest City was built in 1949. [Other comments say Oakford and Manito has depots like this one.] |
