The dominate railroads in the Mobile area were the L&N and GM&O, but the Frisco had a route that entered the area along US-43 parallel to a Southern route and then joined a terminal railroad. (Today, that route is the Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway.) The Frisco merged into the BN in 1980. So it did not take long to pool the power or even repaint some locomotives.

This industrial area illustrates how important trucks have become. It looks like all of the tracks on that island have been torn up. My
previous guess as to where the float dock existed was probably wrong. This is may previous guess based on the following topo map. But did this dock handle vehicles or railroad cars or both?
