Great Memories and History of Fort Wayne, Indiana posted 1943 Pennsylvania Railroad, North side, looking east from Clinton Street overpass showing tracks, warehouse, cars. by Ellsworth Crick. |
The following post confirmed that Pennsy's "freight station" was in the northeast quadrant of the tracks and Clinton Street. What Brian called a depot was actually a freight station.
Brian Robertson provided two photos with the comment: "Sherman White building which is now Jensen Cabinet across the train tracks from the post office. You can see Clinton is a two way street and the old train depot is where the Post office is now."
Arthur L. Potts: Clinton and Spy Run went to one ways in the mid 50s. I remember my dad had to drive into people's yards to keep from getting hit when he turned the wrong way right after they changed it. [Since I was born in 1949, this would explain why I don't remember seeing two-way traffic on Clinton. Before I-69, all of the north/south traffic would go on these two streets. They lights were carefully synchronized on these two streets to allow the traffic to flow through town. Then the lights on the east/west roads would have the rest of their lights synced to the lights that intersected Clinton and Spy Run.]

Becky Osbun commented on Brian's post "Sherman White Company fire 205 Murray Street. Date 12/13/1956." - Fire Fighter Album, ACPL Brian Robertson: Thanks for sharing Becky. I'm the current owner of the building. Most people don't know but most Airport ticket counters, gate counters, checkin kiosks for United, American and Delta Airlines at just about every airport in the country have been made in this building since the 60's.
