Mascoutah, IL: $300m MidAmerica Airport Serves 4 Airplanes a WEEK

(Satellite)

(Update: I hope that supporters of the Peotone Airport note that it is NOT true "that if you build it, they will come.")

According to the video, this airport was built a couple of decades ago to relieve congestion at Lambert. Lambert was the hub for TWA. But after this MidAmerica St. Louis Airport (BLV) was built, TWA went bankrupt. According to YouTube comments, TWA being bought by AA halved the airline traffic at Lambert. Looking at a map, this airport is rather far from St. Louis. But Lambert is not real close either. But the Metrolink goes to Lambert and not this airport.

James Binder And yes let’s build Peotone....
Junior Hill James Binder Agree. What a waste of time and energy it's been. How many homes did they demolish? For what? There's security 247 on the place. It's down the street from me. Hope it never comes
Randall Racine No worst than Mirabel Airport north of Montreal, PQ one of the largest in the world at one time! https://www.worldabandoned.com/montreal-mirabel
Andrew Hix Similar thing happened in Pittsburgh. They built the Pittsburgh airport to serve as American Airlines' hub. However, Charlotte under bid Pittsburgh, so the hub moved to Charlotte.

Steven Phillips: This was nothing but a congressman’s pet project. Nothing else!
Stephen McMullen: Why isn't anyone reporting the MASSIVE waste of TAXPAYER MONEY ($ 2 BILLION) on the W-1-W runway ..... that is not being used hardly at all.......   This at Lambert St. Louis airport.
Raph Schumacher: Yes, this should have been in the story. The Lambert expansion happened years after this under utilized air port was build. Making any future of Mid America just a dream.
