Pekin, IL: Peoria and Pekin Railroad Terminal

(Satellite, only RR trace left is the Pekin Park District Trail)

I labeled these notes with "towerWater" because of the standpipe in this photo. Note that it can service two different tracks.

Pekin Illinois Union Depot. That Steam train would be on the Peoria & Eastern. The track to the right would be the PPU that the IC and CIM use to get to their track. It looks like a street car or interurban next to the depot.

Peoria Railway Terminal
[Because the 10-mile interurban to Peoria also used this station, I added the "rrInteruban" label to this depot. That interban was the driving force behind the constructiod of the P&PT Bridge across the Illinois River.]
"The Pekin Union Station, a substantial brick building built by the Terminal, was to be used not only by the interurbans but steam passenger trains of the P&PU, Chicago Peoria & St. Louis, Illinois Central, and Peoria & Eastern (P&E)."
"Freight service was handled almost entirely with steam locomotives, and connections were made with 12 steam railroads. Interlocking plants were constructed at the C&NW, CB&Q, and TP&W crossings. Southwest of Iowa Junction there was a connection with both the M&StL and Rock Island Belt. Collier Yard, the largest on the system (which was not electrified), was located south of Kickapoo Creek, where most of the freight cars from Keystone Steel Company plus many coal cars were switched. About one mile south of South Bartonville was the huge American Mill (later Allied Mill), served by the Terminal and the P&PU. Then, in short succession, were the Wolschag, Walden, Scholl, Bismarck, and German coal mines. South of Hollis, the trackage had no stops or crossings until the Illinois River was crossed into Pekin."

Pekin Illinois Terminal station. P&PU track to the IC and C&IM curving to the right. P&E and Santa Fe curving to the left and Peoria Terminal and P&E crossing left to right.
Matthew Erickson Would this location be just north of the present day intersection between Ann Eliza Street and North 3rd St.?
Roger Kujawa  Matthew Erickson yes. That is the location.

Another study in postcard colorization. This time I noticed all of the signaling pipelines in the left foreground.

1900's Postcard Railroad Depot Terminal Station Pekin Illinois IL. Postcard seen on eBay.
This is looking generally south.  The tracks to the left go to the Peoria and Eastern and Santa Fe. The tracks to the right go to IC Junction and the Illinois Central and Chicago and Illinois Midland.  The track that crosses left to right is the P&E that went to the Distilleries along the River.
David Jordan: The area bordered by present-day Ann Eliza Street, Caroline Street and North 2nd and North 3rd Streets.

Really cool view looking north on the Peoria and Pekin Union track now Tazewell and Peoria RR.
Post card Terminal Depot Pekin, Illinois. The IC, P&E, C&IM, P&PU and Peoria Railway Terminal all passed this depot. Not sure if they all stopped at the C&IM and IC had their own depots. Date unknown.

Emanuel Collier: Looks like there might be a mid to late 1920s luxury car so I'd say somewhere in the late 20s or 30s

They must have simplified the roof between 1908 and 1939.

I thought I would share this track plan layout from an Illinois Central track plan book. This show how things were laid out in Pekin, Il in 1944. Even show that the C&IM had a small freight house opposite the depot.
What were the P&PT & PRT?
