Sweetwater, IL: C&NW Depot and Grain Elevator

(Satellite, just the foundation remains to the left of the signal box)

John Woodrow posted
C&NW at Sweetwater Illinois on Thanksgiving day 1959 (Edward Wayne Bridges photo)
Kam Miller: Station frame still there, siding isn't. View looking south here.
[To summarize some comments, by "frame," Kam meant "foundation."]

Kam showed the remnants of the depot in a comment.

I was going to skip this town until I noticed that the town developed about a half-mile west of the depot instead of around the depot. That is very unusual.

The town hasn't grown, but the grain elevator has grown a lot. That is not unusual. This is another example of an elevator that is so close, yet so far from the railroad because it is a Class I railroad (UP).

I wonder what the crane is building on the other side of the trees.

It is interesting that they skipped the concrete silo generation of growth and that they have a bunch of small bins.
