Ron Hatch: This segment, Alpha to Joy, abandoned mid to late 80's. It was the last segment of a route that originally came off the CB&Q's Galesburg-Chicago mainline at Galva, crossed the Galesburg-Savanna line at Alpha, and ended at New Boston on the Mississippi River. A few miles east of New Boston was a junction (Arpee) where another branch went south, crossed the M&StL at Keithsburg, then joined the Galesburg-Burlington main at Gladstone for the final lap into Burlington. This was at one time a doodlebug run that the locals called "the Dolly"
Robert Sullivan: That red paint was distinctive on CB&Q small stations and buildings. Almost all are long since torn down
Kevin Huggins: 1986 is when it was abandoned

The grain elevators in the foreground have been replaced by a modern building. The facility in the left background is

Street View, Aug 2011 The old elevators were gone by Oct 2013. |
The "house track" was also the grain elevator siding. It passed just north of the old wood elevator. We can still see the base of the loading spout. The small bin sits on the RoW.
The skeleton of a boxcar.
