Fairbury, NE: Old Feed and/or Flour Mill, RI Depot and Roundhouse

Flour Mill: (Satellite)
Roundhouse: (Satellite), it was still standing in a 1967 aerial
RI Depot: (Satellite)

The Rock Island route used to go west across the river where a trail bridge now crosses.

Mark Wiedergreen posted fifteen photos with the comment: "Making progress in the Beast. For those that haven't seen the outside pic, I've included that with some interior pics. She's located in Fairbury, Nebraska!"
Dennis DeBruler I noticed the line shaft, so I wondered if it was originally water or steam powered. So I looked for it on a satellite image.

(It used to have at least two round outside bins.)
This is too far from Mill Dam Park to have used water power. So it must have been steam powered.
Fran Jilka Churchill depends on the age of the facility. Many mills had the old large, open windings synchronous motors like the one shown in this youtube video. I worked in a number of flour mills with these motors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNuI6keQXYA
Dennis DeBruler Fran Jilka Churchill Thanks for the update. Near the end of the video you can see the big belt that the motor drives.
Fran Jilka Churchill Dennis DeBruler yes, a flat belt to the lineshaft (and possibly another one to tie in another lineshaft) and then flat belts from the lineshaft to each roller mill.

David Budka Looks like one of the temper or flour bins I work around!
Mark Wiedergreen There are 2 of them. 15 foot diameter and about 45 feet tall.

David Budka Old hammermill? If it is, that would be the heart of the old feed mill.
Mark Wiedergreen That it is. Still there and big as heck.
Dennis DeBruler Even the electric motors are antiques.
