Windsor, ON: The Riverfront

The riverfront on the other side: Detroit.  And the contemporary Windsor riverfront

I believe the condo tower at Goyeau and Riverside was built approx 1989 (or so says sketchy realtor websites who are not the best fact chckers) and the Travelodge next door - not here yet - was built not long after that (I recall going in 1992 and it was "new"). Somewhere in that time frame? Def after 1986 as the Norwich Block fire had happened (the missing tooth).

This Canadian National Railway (CN) / Wabash Railway (WAB) rail passenger station was located near the Detroit River shoreline in Windsor ON (1939 photo, retrieved from

The "Spirit of Windsor" steam locomotive static display now sits almost where the baggage carts are in this photo, now Dieppe Gardens. Here is a photo a couple of years after the old station was removed and the locomotive was placed in the new park. You can see the track bumpers behind the locomotive, the ones seen in the station photograph to the right.
Dennis DeBruler An interesting view of a ferry operation as well.

The Wabash had running rights on the CNR from Windsor across the province to Fort Erie/Niagara Falls.

This c. 1952 view of the Windsor ON riverfront includes the Canadian National Railway (CN) Boat Yard, as seen from East Riverside Drive at the foot of Goyeau Street.
Wabash Railway (WAB, note the covered-wagon units) enjoyed trackage rights along CN through southern Ontario, from Windsor to Fort Erie (across the Niagara River from Buffalo NY).

CP 6704 switches one of the Detroit-Windsor railroad ferries in Windsor, ON in October of 1962. Little is left of railroads in this area today. John Ingles Kodachrome from my collection.
Greg Mross: David Schauer Way before the GM building that dominates the scene now.

Is this Windsor south of the Ambassador Bridge?

Now the riverfront is further south.
